Three water main breaks leave residents without water for short time

It was "all hands on deck" after Byron water mains broke in three locations May 2.

One of the two busiest intersections in Byron experienced one of the breaks. When water bubbled up through the pavement near the Kwik Trip, workers and equipment from S.L. Contracting were called in.

They quickly set up their big excavator and dump trucks and began breaking up the pavement and digging out the muddy muck to get to the break. These workers are old hands at repairing cracked water lines as they are called out in all weather to keep clean water running to homes and businesses throughout the region.

Another break was at Third Ave and Fifth St NE and another was under Byron Avenue North next to the grain elevators. Workers and equipment from Edge Contracting also responded said Public Works Superintendent Tom Ricke.
