The Hayfield Vikings (15-3 overall 6-1 conference) volleyball team notched two more Hiawatha Valley League (HVL) wins against #2AA Stewartville and Byron this week in the midst of a full week of Homecoming events. The girls participated in coronation and a powder puff football game in addition to playing some great volleyball.
Hayfield got its first signature win of the season with a shocking 3-2 victory over #2AA Stewartville (10-2 overall, 5-1 conference).
The Vikings opened up the match with a 25-19 victory in game one. After that, the Stewartville Tigers took control of the match with wins in games two and three with scores of 25-20 and 25-10.
Things looked very dismal for the Vikings after game three. But the Vikings regrouped and decided to make this a match. In game four, the Tigers and the Vikings battled back and forth the entire game. It was a tight match and neither team gained much of an edge.
The Vikings fought very hard to earn a 29-27 victory.
Game five was no different, a battle to the very end with huge momentum swings. In a stunner, the Vikings outlasted the Tigers for a 15-13 victory. It was a signature win for the Hayfield volleyball program, one that the community has been waiting for many years.
